An oil company wants to build a feeder road through a wetland near Lake Albert. The company says the shorter route would cost less, support oil development and bring jobs to the area. Some community leaders hope that new income could improve roads and public services.

Fishers and conservation officers are worried. The wetland slows and cleans rainwater, provides breeding areas for fish and supports birds and other wildlife. A road through it could interrupt the flow of water. Oil or fuel leaking from vehicles could also reach the lake.

The authorities must decide whether to approve the proposed route, reject it or require the company to change its plan. Their decision will affect the company, nearby communities and the wetland for many years.
