Keep the sock hunt playful

You do not need to teach every position word at once. Enjoy the story, move a real sock around, and let the child point, say, act or draw what they understand.

Before the story

Show a real sock. Ask: “Where could we hide it?” Accept ideas in English or another familiar language.

While reading

Pause for the repeated line and let the child point to the pictures. Model one short phrase at a time: under, inside, next to, behind, on.

Move & play

Hide a sock under a chair, inside a basket or behind something safe. Let the child find it and tell you where it is.

Finish simply

Choose just one activity from the mission. A point, a word, a short sentence or a drawing is enough for today.

Language bridge

Let the child understand and answer in a familiar language when needed. Repeat the idea in simple English and invite them to try the key word.

What should I notice?

Look for progress in listening, pointing to familiar objects, following a position-word instruction, explaining where something is, retelling part of the story, and using drawing or early writing with growing confidence.
