Leila Talks About the News at School

Leila brings the Meadow Park news to school, but she may not have understood the whole report. With help from her teacher and classmates, she learns to separate facts, opinions and questions before sharing the news.

In this Grade 3 material, Leila tells her classmates:

“They are taking away Meadow Park!”

Her teacher asks the class to slow down and check what the report actually said.

Together, the pupils explore three important ideas:

Fact — something that can be checked.
Opinion — what someone thinks or feels.
Question — something we still want to know.

The activities help pupils listen carefully, discuss news respectfully and avoid repeating information before they understand it.

Pupils will:

• draw an important part of the news report
• complete guided sentences
• identify facts, opinions and questions
• practise key spelling words
• use English to explain what they think and still want to know

The material also includes a Language Bridge, allowing pupils to plan their ideas in Swedish or another familiar language before choosing the English words they need.
