A little paper boat, an unfinished river and an invitation to join.

In this lesson, we listen to a story, explore how the characters help one another and imagine a place for a boat of our own.

Our focus: Friendship, feelings, listening and storytelling.
Time: 45 minutes, with optional extra activities.
You need: Paper, pencils and the pupil workbook—or ordinary drawing paper.

This is a shared lesson with an adult reading aloud. Children can respond through talking, pointing, drawing and acting. Independent reading and writing are not required.

Possible activities

-Create: A place for my boat

-Draw a place your boat could visit. It can be real or completely imaginary.

-Think about

Tell someone about your drawing.

Try a little more: Invent a problem in your boat’s journey. How could someone help solve it?

Optional story games

Choose one or two.

MAKE
Pretend to fold a boat. Tell someone what you are making.

MOVE
Make your hand into a boat. Where will it travel? Where will it stop?

SOLVE
Your boat cannot fit under a bridge. Show or explain a solution.

INVITE
An imaginary child is watching. What could you say or do to invite them?

CHANGE
The river becomes a road. What changes in your story?

TELL
Choose three actions. Put them in order and tell a tiny story.

Finally

Share one thing you remember from the story.

Then think together:

What could we say or do to help someone feel welcome?
